Where to Find Drawing References

Published about 1 year ago • 1 min read

Hi Reader,

Finding references for an art piece can take time, but there is an abundance of inspiration out there, which can guide you in creating accurate pieces and even relieve creative block.

One option is to create a master copy. Look at works by artists such as John Singer Sargent or Rembrandt who painted numerous portraits, pay attention to the gesture and lighting of the figure to create a more dynamic piece.

Another option is to use a manikin as a reference to help with accurate measurements and proportions. With a manikin you can practise drawing figures in various poses. There are also software programs available that allow you to generate 3D manikins with specific angles, poses and lighting.

For more tips, we have a comprehensive guide on where to find drawing references online and in life, if you never want to run out of ideas, give it a read!

Happy Drawing!
